To the supporters of Magen David Adom — and Israel,

As you undoubtedly already know, Israel was attacked by Hamas early this morning, with rockets and terrorist infiltrations across the border from Gaza. As of the most recent report, 200 Israelis have been killed, most of them civilians, including women slaughtered by gunmen in border communities.

More than 1,000 people have been injured, both by rocket and gunfire. As always, the men and women of Magen David Adom have risked their lives to save the lives of others.

In some cases, they paid a dear price for their bravery and sacrifice. At least one Magen David Adom EMT was killed and several others wounded, including two critically.

We extend our condolences to the family of Aaron Haimov, a 25-year-old senior EMT, husband, and father of two young children.

There are reports that two MDA ambulances have also been captured by Hamas and driven into Gaza. We are still trying to ascertain the whereabouts of several of our EMTs and paramedics, fearing they may be injured or among those Israelis abducted by Hamas.

This is unlike anything Israel has experienced in a long time. And it could get exponentially worse if Hezbollah joins the conflict and begins deploying the 150,000 rockets and missiles it’s acquired specifically to use against Israel.

As I write this, I’m in Tel Aviv, alternately working and scrambling to my hotel’s stairwell, which serves as a makeshift bomb shelter, because even at this late hour, rockets continue to fall.

The people of Israel need your help. If you’ve considered making a gift to Magen David Adom, it’s needed now.

  • Your donation will help outfit ambulances with lifesaving equipment and wound-stanching dressing.
  • It will support MDA’s Blood Services, which is enabling hospitals to save lives by providing essential blood for the injured.
  • And it will provide more personal-protection equipment, such as ballistic vests, to make our EMTs and paramedics as safe as possible under these horrendous conditions.

Thank you for helping us save lives.

With appreciation,
Catherine Reed Catherine Reed
Chief Executive Officer
